We saw and experienced a number of things on our way to our house.
First, we pulled into an undersized BP gas station...there were tons of people there and we had to wait about ten minutes for a pump to open for us. As we were getting ready to leave, a car flew into the lot and cut right in front of another car that had been sitting there for awhile waiting for the spot. So we watched that scene play out before pulling out...it was an entertaining sight at a point in the trip when we were easily amused at anything coming our way!
Then, we found the "Countryside" of Florida to consist of several towns that seemed rather void of successful businesses. We passed several outlet malls with only one store in them. The most common things to see were thrift stores, flea markets, and Dollar Generals...along with several gas stations, of course. We did pass through some very beautiful places as well and got the opportunity to see the scenery of Florida. It is always neat to get off the interstate and experience the heart and beauty of the state!
One other random thing...we pulled up to a stoplight about 20 miles from our house and a vehicle pulled up to us and told us to put down our window. We wondered what was up, but he was wondering what part of Iowa we were from! He was originally from Marshalltown, Iowa and had moved to Georgia. It isn't too often you make acquaintances at a stoplight in Florida! Following the encounter, Dad almost accidentally pulled out of the stoplight without waiting for it to turn green...Oops!
